A "Blacklist" Of Terms - David Cameron ... Stupid, Liar Or Facist, Or All And More?

PM in call to tackle child porn

"David Cameron is urging internet providers to 'step up to the plate'

David Cameron will tell internet giants including Google they have a "moral duty" to do more to tackle child abuse [sic].

In a major speech he will call for search engines to block any results being displayed for a "blacklist" of terms compiled by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (Ceop).

The Government has been involved in negotiations with technology firms over the best way to crack down on child abuse, and the main service providers have agreed to introduce ''splash pages'' which tell people if they are attempting to view illegal images [nice].

But the Prime Minister will call on firms to go further, with splash screens warning of consequences "such as losing their job, their family, even access to their children" as a result of viewing the content."

It takes a Sun reader ...

Sigh, they don't understand -  JohnBeGood 0 likes

If Google blocks the search terms 'Big Dongs' for example, the abusers and peado's [sic] will just change the image tag terms to be "Large Wangs". This will be a futile, and costly exercise which will have ONE benefit - Cameron will appear to be 'doing something'. That is ALL this is, a political manoeuvre.

Some of the comments the couples and the Sun made were very sadly naive.

"Surely, if a website has been reported, then its IP address can be locked down? If you upload a photo on to the internet then you should have some kind of identification or a PIN number. If you don’t then you can’t put up pictures. Then, if they are indecent pictures, people can be traced.”

Oh, right? That easy, eh? Well why didn't we come to you before??

Seriously, every picture uploaded has to have a PIN? In EVERY country in the world? Name one single overriding authority which has say over these things WORLDWIDE?

The internet just doesn't work that way, it's not a reluctance to implement the safeguards because of money it's because you'd have to redesign the internet from the ground up, it's just not ever going to happen.

This also wouldn't stop anything. Do we think there were no paedophiles [sic] before the Internet? How naive.

Now the Demands, lets look at them;

1. On-screen warnings for people who view child abuse images.

Where? Though Google? Through Bing? Through each and every search engine WORLDWIDE? You can try, I suppose. Not that search engines are the way Paedo's [sic] access these images, but fair enough, spend the money and resource doing this if you want. I think a pedo [sic] is pretty aware that what he's doing is wrong, though.

2. “Safe search” option as the default setting to protect kids from pornography.

Already there. (LOL @ Sun's reporting standards)

3. Search engines and Internet Service Providers should fund policing of the internet.

Hahahahah. Haha. Ha. Oh, you're serious? Wow. I think not here. Again, which countries will be forced to comply? All of them? Bring in the world police, we got a non-conformer here! Seriously, it won't work. Who will check on the policing? Who will ULTIMATELY pay for this (inneffective) policing? That's right amigo, it's YOU the Mr Customer / taxpayer.

4. Embrace “photo DNA” technology to track child abuse images.

Fair enough, you'll catch a few wit this, which is always good. The clever ones will simply use older tech, or remove the 'DNA' info, but still.

5. Use technical expertise to identify people searching for illegal content.

Could you possibly be more vague, please? How exactly?

TOR, a popular anonymity tool practically guarantees anonymity because of 'Onion-like' layered encryption. The websites themselves can be put behind a TOR layer which makes them untraceable unless you have vast resources at your disposal (The ability to get court orders multinationally to pull IP logs from ISP's within a very short time window).

There's no doubt it needs to be stopped, but I think people need to educate themselves a bit about how the secret corners of the internet really work. Speak to some hackers, most will tell you that they know of places where this stuff is found, but these experts will tell you the very reason they use TOR and these secret corners to do their trade (hacking) is because they know they are so untraceable. The paedo's [sic] use these same areas for the SAME reason. It's a sad part of darkweb life."

David Cameron's porn speech in part ...

"On people searching for these images there are some searches where people should be given clear routes out of that search to legitimate sites on the web.

So here’s an example.

If someone is typing in ‘child’ and ‘sex’ there should come up a list of options:

‘Do you mean child sex education?’

‘Do you mean child gender?’

What should not be returned is a list of pathways into illegal images which have yet to be identified by CEOP or reported to the IWF.

Then there are some searches which are so abhorrent and where there can be no doubt whatsoever about the sick and malevolent intent of the searcher that there should be no search results returned at all.

Put simply - there needs to be a list of terms – a black list – which offer up no direct search returns."
